Welcome to singoutbabyjim.com and thank you for taking the time to visit. The site is named after the advice my mother gave me in my childhood, and I've been following it ever since. As a true born and bred Jersey boy, I was raised on the music and magic of some of the biggest 'local' New Jersey recording artists to have ever lived: Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Frankie Valli, Count Basie, the list goes on because if there's one thing the Garden State grows, its great performers. Being minutes away from New York City and the Great White Way of Broadway provided me with endless hours of immersion in the world of some of the greatest storytellers in history: George and Ira Gershwin, Rogers and Hammerstein, Bernstein and Sohndheim. After graduating from NYU Tisch School for the Arts, I have been so fortunate to continue to share these timeless
stories by singing the songs of these artists all across the USA and around the world. Learning the hidden histories behind these great songs and immortal artists, like how "I Left My Heart in San Fransisco" was discovered in Tony Bennett's arranger's sock drawer, and how Columbia Records once owned a whole church on 30th St and 2 Av in New York just because the acoustics were so good for recording, make listening to them again a completely new and deeper experience. How Frank Sinatra was born deaf in one ear, how 'Over the Rainbow' was almost cut from the Wizard of Oz, and how Tom Jones wasn't even supposed to record 'It's Not Unusual' in the first place; these tales of trials and triumph create a rich history woven with huge personalities and brilliant artistry that came together to make just great music. Inspiring and sharing a love of the Great American Songbook is truly a joy every time I step onstage and it is my hope that after visiting my site you want to learn more about these amazing songs, artists and composers.
